USNR's Quad Arbor Sawbox is a circular saw alternative to a quad bandmill that features the new Even Depth of Cut (EDC) technology. This innovation alleviates many of the problems commonly associated with the typical fixed arbor sawboxes.

Unique Arbor Arrangement

The USNR Sawbox has a unique arrangement with shifting top arbors and fixed bottom arbors.  The top arbor leads the bottom arbor and pivots down to equalise the cut depth for various log sizes.  The advantage of this is to maximize the feed speed for all log sizes.

Quad Arbor Sawbox:  Maximum feed speeds and minimum saw step

USNR’s innovative Quad Arbor Sawbox alleviates many problems commonly associated with fixed arbor sawboxes including uneven saw wear, which leads to lower quality sawn faces and saw alignment problems.

·         USNR’s quad arbor system arranges the saws so the bottom saw cuts the lower half of the log and the upper saw cuts the upper half of the log.

·         For a given depth of cut, the saws can be much smaller, reducing the necessary thickness of the saw and reducing recovery losses to sawdust production.

·         The top and bottom saws do nearly the same amount of work and therefore wear at about the same rate, which helps maintain higher qualit6y sawn faces over time, while reducing saw alignment problems.

Design Benefits

·         The top saws are positioned upstream of the bottom saws, leading the cut.  This permits the top saws to pivot down in front of the bottom saws to equalise the depth of cut.

·         The system achieves a balanced depth of cut resulting in higher feed speeds and lower sawing deviations.

·         More even saw wear helps to maintain higher quality sawn faces over time, while reducing saw alignment problems.

·         Another advantage of the pivoting action is that it brings the upper sawguide down close to the wood, increasing the saw stability and decreasing sawing variation.
